Pacific Governance Support Program

Applications for the Pacific Governance Support Program (PGSP) for 2008-09 closed on 27 June 2008.

PGSP aims to develop public sector expertise in Pacific states, build institutional capacity and strengthen regional approaches to shared problems.

PGSP offers departments and agencies of the Australian Government (federal) the opportunity to compete for grant funding to work with their Pacific and Papua New Guinea counterparts on governance issues. Other levels of government may be involved under the coordination of a federal agency.

Activities are delivered mainly in the form of technical assistance and training and can include:

  • Institutional strengthening and capacity-building in partner countries
  • Short-term training in the partner country, Australia or the Pacific region
  • In-Australia or regional secondments and work attachments
  • Secondments of Australian staff in the partner country
  • Applied policy research, feasibility studies and small projects

PGSP will be re-designed in 2008-09. New Guidelines and application details are expected to be issued in early 2009.
