Landmines and Australia's aid program

Landmines

Large explosion in countryside

Landmines and other explosive remnants of war cause around 20,000 casualties each year, most of them civilians and many of them children.

As well as the tragic loss of life and injury, landmines deprive people of basic needs such as water and access to markets to sell their produce.

Land is almost impossible to cultivate and communities face the long-term burden of caring for survivors.
