Landmines and Australia's aid program
Progress so far
- Since 1997, 151 countries have signed an international Mine Ban Convention and agreed to remove all landmines from their territories
- Of these countries 134 no longer have stockpiles of anti-personnel landmines. Together they have destroyed more than 38 million mines.
- Since 1996 the 34 states that previously traded in landmines no longer do so.
While we have achieved much, an estimated 60 to 70 million landmines remain.
