AusAID-Clinton Foundation Partnership

AusAID and the William J. Clinton Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in February 2006 to formally establish a partnership between the Australian Government and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).

Under the MOU, the Australian Government has contributed $25.3 million over four years, complemented by funding from the Clinton Foundation, to strengthen efforts to deliver HIV treatment and care in:

  • Papua New Guinea ($13.75 million, July 2006–December 2010)
  • Indonesia ($3.9 million, July 2007–October 2010)
  • Vietnam ($4.9 million, July 2006–June 2009; $3.2 million, August 2009–July 2011)
  • China (Xinjiang) ($2.8 million, August 2006–December 2009).

Clinton Foundation activities in each country are aligned to complement existing AusAID regional and bilateral HIV projects.

The Clinton Foundation and AusAID work together with public health authorities in each country to scale-up treatment and care for people living with HIV. This includes availability of anti-retroviral drugs, improving laboratory and testing infrastructure and strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems.
