AusAID-Clinton Foundation Partnership

The partnership with the William J. Clinton Foundation was launched in Sydney in February 2006 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Under the MOU, the Australian Government will provide $25 million over four years, complemented by funding from the Clinton Foundation, to strengthen efforts to deliver HIV/AIDS treatment and care in the Asia Pacific region.

Projects are initially being planned in three countries in the Asia-Pacific: Papua New Guinea, Vietnam and China.

Clinton Foundation activities in each country will be aligned to complement existing AusAID regional and bilateral HIV/AIDS projects.

The Clinton Foundation will work with AusAID and key ministries in each country to facilitate the scale-up of treatment and care for people living with HIV/AIDS.

The Clinton Foundation and AusAID will work together with public health authorities in each country to scale-up treatment and care for people living with HIV/AIDS. This will include availability of anti-retroviral drugs, improving laboratory and testing infrastructure and strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems.

These projects may also be linked to the Clinton Foundation's Paediatric Initiative, which aims to improve treatment and care of HIV positive children.
