Australia's Ambassador for HIV
Murray Proctor commenced duties as Australia's Ambassador for HIV on World AIDS Day, 1 December 2007. Through the position of Ambassador for HIV, Australia encourages political, business and community leadership on global and regional HIV issues, drives debates and advocates for policy or programming change in neglected or emerging areas. With more than 25 years experience in aid and development, Murray is well placed to further cooperation with Australia's regional partners in advancing the response to HIV. He is concurrently First Assistant Director General of the Sectoral Policy Division at Australia's Agency for International Development (AusAID). This Division provides advice to AusAID program areas on sectors such as education, health, infrastructure and the environment. Murray was previously Deputy Director General of AusAID's Asia Division, and before that managed the AusAID Office of Review and Evaluation and Australia's aid program to Papua New Guinea. He worked from 1999 to 2001 in the World Bank on East Timor reconstruction and public sector reform. He holds degrees in Psychology and Economics from the University of Queensland and Australian National University respectively.
