Referencing AusAID in Public Material

NGOs are required to acknowledge Australian Government support for their projects and programs in public material where appropriate. Any references to AusAID must accurately reflect the role and nature of the support provided by AusAID.

Use of the AusAID logo

NGOs considering using the AusAID logo should first read the logo guidelines. These guidelines have been developed to ensure the logo is consistently and appropriately applied, helping to effectively promote Australia's significant aid contribution.

Acknowledging AusAID support in Annual Reports

Accredited NGOs are contractually required to acknowledge AusAID support for their programs in:

  • Public statements made by the Organisation to the media or otherwise
  • Documents published by the Organisation in relation to any initiatives [programs] funded by AusAID. This includes Annual Reports, newsletters and other promotional material.

As the Annual Report is an important means of communication between the NGO and their supporters it is important that Australian Government assistance is acknowledged. Reference to AusAID support must be made in the body or narrative of the Annual Report in addition to listing income from AusAID in the financial statements.

Each NGO may develop their own means of identifying AusAID support, but the following are examples of statements that AusAID considers appropriate and could be used in Annual Reports:

  • 'XXX wishes to thank the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) for its continued support'; or
  • 'AusAID is the Australian Government's Agency for International Development and this year provided $xx to support XXX's activities.'
  • 'XXX is implementing a nutrition project with Good Health Hospital in Bangladesh. Part funded by AusAID, the Australian Government's Agency for International Development, the project aims to ...'

Using the ANCP 3:1 match in fundraising materials

Each year, accredited NGOs are eligible to receive a 3:1 matching grant through the ANCP. NGOs may wish to use the matching element in their fundraising materials to attract donations. It is important that the relationship between donations and the ANCP grant is correctly represented and does not mislead the public.

Examples of how to represent this relationship accurately in promotional material follow:

  • 'By donating to the Matching Grant Fund, your donation may be multiplied by up to four times to help those most in need. For every dollar we use from the Matching Grant Fund on approved projects, we may access up to three dollars from an Australian Government Grant.'
  • 'NGOs, such as XXX, submit proposals to AusAID. Once approved, AusAID provides 75% of funding for these activities while XXX must raise the remaining 25%'
