Living in Canberra
A lot of applicants ask, “What’s it like living in Canberra?” So here are few things to consider.
- Spend less time commuting, and more time doing the things you enjoy. On average 15-20 minutes to work. Even in peak hour the traffic is good.
- Canberra has a clean environment, with lots of fresh air.
- You can safely and easily ride to work from a large number of suburbs; Canberra has hundreds of kilometers of great bike paths.
- It’s a 3 hour drive to Sydney, 2.5 hours to the NSW Snow Fields and only 2 hours to the NSW Coast.
- Canberra enjoys more hours of sunshine than Sydney or the Gold Coast. Yes, we do have cold weather from June – August, but it’s not miserable. Winter is normally very sunny and the days can be quite spectacular. Average maximum temperatures range from 12° in the winter to 29° in the summer.
- A stylish restaurant and café culture and lots of shopping.
- Lots of sporting activities available for the participant and spectator.
- Good schools and several of Australia’s leading universities (including ANU, UC and UNSW).
- A family friendly city with lots of activities to keep the kids off the computer games.
- Population of 344,200.
