Pacific Economic Postdoctoral Fellowships 2009

As part of our commitment to support research AusAID is funding up to four Pacific Economic Postdoctoral Fellowships (PEPFs) in 2009.

The aim of the PEPFs is to support high quality research by early career researchers that informs policy development and increases the general stock of knowledge on development issues in the Pacific.

The 2009 funding round is open to postdoctoral candidates (early career researchers within five years of completing a PhD) from Australian universities.

Research must address economic issues affecting Pacific island countries with priority given to the following topics:

Priority topics

  • Trade liberalisation
  • Sectoral reform for improved export capacity
  • Sectoral reform to improve outcomes for women and women's enterprise.
  • Labour mobility
  • Impact of certification programs (Fair Trade, organic, carbon footprint, GM) on Pacific island products and markets
  • Moving between the informal and formal sectors
  • Resource economics and related issues - fisheries, forestry, agriculture
  • Business enabling environment and private sector development, particularly addressing women's enterprise
  • Microfinance
  • Financial market reform, development and deepening
  • Foreign investment

Successful applicants will be eligible to receive a grant of $110,000, to cover salary and other costs, for a project to be completed within 12 months of commencement, for research to begin in 2009.
