Timeline for applicants

As soon as possible

Undertake all preliminary requirements in preparation for submission of a complete application including:

  • develop and discuss your Australian study plans with your employer, referees and family
  • prepare for and complete an English Language Proficiency test
  • collect all required supporting documents (eg passport, birth certificate, university transcripts, referee reports etc)
  • arrange certification of true copies and translation of documents into English as required
  • conduct research on available Australian post-graduate courses
  • attend Australian higher education exhibitions where available
  • request an unconditional offer of admission from your preferred institution

19 March 2009

Opening date for the 2010 academic year round of ALA Scholarships.

30 June 2009

Closing date for all applications including online, hard copy and supporting documentation if applicable.

July to October 2009

Candidates may be invited to attend an interview and/or undergo further screening as part of the short-listing process.

October 2009

Successful applicants advised of outcome of selection process by the end of October.

October - December 2009

Awardees prepare to commence study in Australia. For example; awardees will be required to lodge visa applications, undergo medical checks, arrange leave from work and make other necessary arrangements that will enable them to travel to Australia in January 2010.

2010 Australian academic year

Study must commence in Australia (Semester 1 intake in January 2010 and Semester 2 intake in July 2010). Awards cannot be deferred to the following year.
