NGOs and Community Development

The Vietnam-Australia Development Cooperation Program supports a range of community level activities. These include major partnership programs between Australian NGOs and local communities.

They may also involve small-scale activities emerging from local communities and implemented by local authorities (commune/district people's committees), local mass organizations (Youth Union, Women's Union, Father Front), local and international NGOs and other institutions around Vietnam.

Funding mechanisms include:

Australia is supporting a range of initiatives through these schemes such as

  • Provision of clean water and sanitation for rural poor in the Mekong Delta through CARE Australia
  • Participatory disaster management in Dong Thap and Tien Giang through Oxfam Australia
  • Establishment of community-based wetlands management system in the coastal areas of Ha Tinh through Vinh University
  • Livelihood improvement for poor women living in the buffer zone of Tam Dao National Park
  • education assistance for orphans at Nguyen Viet Xuan Orphanage and Birla Center in Hanoi
  • Support for the rehabilitation of trafficked women in the northern area of Vietnam through the Reproductive and Family Health Center.
