Australian Development Scholarships (ADS)
Program Objectives:
- Strengthening selected key government institutions relevant to the market economy
- Building Viet Nam’s capacity to improve the lives of the rural poor
- Enhancing the contribution of highly talented individuals, including current and future leader, to Vietnam's development; and
- To strengthen enduring links between people and institutions of Vietnam and Australia.

Program Components:
- ADS scholarships: Annually, approximately 150 scholarships are offered to Vietnamese citizens who meet the eligibility and selection criteria which have been agreed between AusAID and Ministry of Education and Training. Up to one third of scholarships will be allocated to priority public institutions (PPI), and the remaining allocated to the open category.
- ADS Support - To provide administrative and HRD support throughout the Vietnam ADS cycle, including screening, shortlisting, promotion, placement, mobilisation, monitoring of students progress and outcomes, in-country support for returned graduates and human resource capacity building in targeted institutions working in priority sectors.
- English Language Training - To provide a high-quality and cost-effective training pathway which allows awardees to achieve appropriate English language skills levels for living and study in Australia.
Outcomes: ADS selection: A maximum of 150 quality ADS shortlisted candidates a year have been selected and sent to Australia to do postgraduate (PhD and Masters) study in priority development areas.
