Technical Assistance to Ministry of Finance in developing a new Law on Public Assets Management and Uses in Vietnam

Objective

This initiative is among various efforts by the Government of Vietnam in general and of the Ministry of Finance in particular in addressing the anti-corruption strategy of the country. The purpose of this Project is to enact the Law on Management and Use of State Assets and the legal documents under the Law for execution.

Australian Contribution: US$500,000

Duration: February 2007 - June 2008

Location: Countrywide

Program Component:
The Project provides support to the Ministry of Finance and related agencies in Vietnam responsible for compiling the Law. Specifically, it will:

  • Provide access to international experience and thinking (from study of  Australian and Danish experiences);
  • Provide technical assistance and strengthening of the capacity of the Law compilation taskforce;
  • and help bring State asset management and use into compliance with the legal framework.

Outcomes:

The Ministry of Finance submitted the draft Law on Management and Use of the State Assets to the Government in mid 2007 and to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly in September.
The law is planned for submission to the National Assembly by the end of 2007.
