Trade Analysis and Reform Project

Objectives

To raise the quality and utilisation of information and analysis in trade policy development and engagement with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) through building demand for and capacity to supply high quality trade policy analysis.

Regional Contribution: $5 million (approx) to Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam

Duration: 2005 - 2008

Participating Countries: Cambodia, Lao, Thailand and Vietnam

Project Components

The project is expected to have 3 components:

  • Training on WTO and trade agreements and their economic and social impact.
  • Providing policy makers with the skills to analyse policy options and utilise analysis to better inform this analysis.
  • Improving the skills of government and independent researchers in the countries to deliver high quality policy analysis.

During its 3 year of implementation, it will organize 5 training rounds involving 120 policy analysts and 180 researchers in this area and some case study about trade policy issues in the region.

Outcomes

To promote effective interaction with the WTO in the development of policies on economic integration that support economic growth and social development.
