The project also consists of an Environment and Social Management Fund (ESMF) that will assist with poverty alleviation, environment improvement and improved land use planning and practices. The ESMF program has 3 themes:
The fund could also be a catalyst to facilitate improved marketing linkages and develop value added off-farm household income generation. Outcomes The population of approximately 270,000 in the project area will benefit through an effective water management system and farming households will be able to improve their livelihoods through increased rural productivity. The communities will also benefit from strengthened local environmental and social monitoring systems, controlled seasonal flooding, reduced major crop losses, and lessened flood damage to households, infrastructure and livelihoods. Provincial relevant agencies will have a strengthened capacity to effectively plan, operate and maintain a water control system in North Vam Nao that meets the needs of multiple users, and results in improved livelihoods for local households.
