Dengue-Safe Water Supply in Southern and Central Viet Nam
Objectives: To facilitate and support affected communities and water and health organizations adopt evidence-based methods, practices and new institutional arrangements to mitigate water supply related dengue risk.
Total funding: A$4,610,000 (excluding the design cost of $91,227)
Duration: 5 years (30/10/2005 – 30/04/2010)
Location: Cuu Long Delta: Long An, Vinh Long, Ben Tre
Project Components
- Component 1: will build capacity of CERWASS agencies to respond water supply-related dengue risk during the planning, design and construction phases of infrastructure development.
- Component 2: will build capacity within the NDP at the national, regional and provincial levels to support CERWASS agencies and affected communities to intervene and address water related dengue risk..
- Component 3: will enable and support affected communities to mitigate water supply related dengue risk.
- Component 4: Project management
Expected Outcomes
- Improved health and productivity through decrease in dengue morbidity from water related diseases for people in minimum 40% of the Cuu Long RWSS target communes.
- Maximise benefits from current AusAID funded water supply project in Southern Vietnam through the delivery of safe water-supply infrastructure.
- Improved capacity of Centre for Water Supply and Sanitation (CERWASS), the National Dengue Program Team (NDPT), Preventive Medicine Centres (PMCs) to monitor and respond to water related dengue risk.
- Establish a foundation within the water and health sectors for wider expansion of program models, approaches and methodologies.
